During the 2024 Reimagine Appalachia Strategy Summit, Jennifer Seifert emphasized how economic support is a critical form of violence prevention—linking workforce development and affordable housing directly to community wellness across Appalachian Ohio.
The Resilience Village model is a holistic two-year transitional housing model that provides free housing, job training, childcare, and counseling, helping participants move toward permanent housing and meaningful careers. Seifert explained the inspiration for this work emerged during the pandemic, when gaps in the system became impossible to ignore.
She also spoke to the broader vision: building thriving, trauma-informed communities through strategic partnerships and economic empowerment.
“When we look at what prevents child abuse, sexual violence, intimate partner violence … increasing economic support for women and families is a primary prevention activity,” Seifert said, as quoted by The Times Leader.
